I Don't Really Walk Alone
My work takes me all over Virginia. Oftentimes, I am off exploring and recording historic sites, alone, in hard-to-find and forgotten places. I am searching for the material and geographical traces of our collective history that may still exist on today's landscape. I have learned that to truly understand the history of a place you must listen to what that space has to tell you. So, I listen. I listen to the faint whispers of the common man, the slaves, the women, the children. I let them tell me what they know, I let them show me what they left behind. Simply put, I am at my happiest when I am doing this. I feel in synch with the universe and I know that I don't really walk alone.
