App Description

Brushes is a painting application designed for the iPhone and iPod touch. Featuring a color picker, several brushes, layers, extreme zooming, and a simple yet deep interface, it is a powerful tool for creating original artwork on your mobile device.

I absolutely love this app.  It was one of the apps that was the inspiration to create this website.  The possibilities of what the application can create are endless. I am are continually blown away by the paintings artists are creating with this iPhone application.

It is very fun to replay your paintings at high resolution with the Brushes Viewer on Mac OS X. Unfortunately the viewer is not available for your mobile device (yet).

Cool Features:
- High-quality brushes
- Layers (rearrange, merge, fill with a color, and adjust transparency)
- Copy and Paste layers between paintings
- Import multiple photos as layers
- Great color picker
- Zooming from 70% to 1600%
- Generous level of undo and redo

Not So Cool Features:
- Only 4 layers
- Brushes viewer not available for iphone.

My main APP these days. My ONLY complaint is that it crops the width of the initial image....REALLY wish it didn't do this!!

This used to be the #1 painting app and represented the fine art iPad painters. The mystery is why no update for now going on 10 months? Sluggish brushes. Only 6 layers? Has it been abandoned. After using an app on my iphone for 9 months it, too, was no longer supported and never made it to the iPad. My #1 app is SketchbookPro. Professional, Sophisticated and well-supported. Everyone's go-to app is a personal choice but it's sad to see a good choice left behind.

At first I was thinking that sketchbook mobile was at superior to the brushes ap. however, after spending some time with it I now understand that it is just as powerfully if not more so that sketchbook mobile. My primary complaint is that it lacks an "export to iTunes" option like sketchbook mobile.
